Autumn Cookies

Now that fall has arrived, we've been busy getting into the spirit of colorful leaves and brisk nights by baking some cookies.  The oven warms the house and the cookies smell so good.  I added some lemon to the cookie dough and it tastes wonderful.
What are you doing to cozy things up this fall?

I love those cookies. I am waiting until it cools off here (Florida) before I start my baking. My son has a cookie party at school on December 9th, so it had better cool off before then.

Those cookies look gorgeous! How did you do the patterns on the leaves and turkeys? Royal icing?

I made the patterns with royal icing. You ice the cookies in on color, then draw lines on the cookies with another color (or two or three). Then pull a toothpick or cake tested across the lines to create the pattern. Hmm, perhaps I should post this with pictures - step by step. Once you try it, it's really very easy. You just need to make sure your icing is a tad runny so you don't leave dents in the icing.
